Winter Apple “Pie”

Plan Z Phase: This is a Z2 (ZReduction) recipe. Spice up your holidays without losing a step on Plan Z with this comforting winter-inspired recipe.
Servings: Serves 4 – 6
Ingredients:
- 4 apples, peeled, cored, and sliced
- 1-1/2 cup water
- 1 tsp pumpkin pie spice
- 3 tsp Truvia
- 3 tsp fruit pectin (non-sugar necessary see picture below)

Instructions:
Put all ingredients in a saucepan and bring to a boil over med-high heat. Boil for 5-7 minutes. Turn off heat and let sit and cool to thicken before eating.
Special note:
We have never worked with fruit pectin in this diet. Amy came up with the idea to try it. Brilliant idea! I checked the carb content and approved it. This opens up a whole new world of opportunity for thickening.
Enjoy!
Cheers,

Strawberry Smoosh is my husband's FAVORITE ZReduction dessert. How could I have been so lax? I'm almost ashamed! Here's the recipe for all to enjoy!

For those of you old enough to remember the Jello product that formed 3 layers you’ll know exactly what this tastes like and actually includes REAL raspberries!

What about the dextrose in it?
That’s a great question. While dextrose is definitely on the no-no list during ZReduction, the small amount of dextrose in the little bit that you’ll use is not going to be enough to stall your weight loss. Thanks! Jen
I made this, but it turned out runny, not nice and gooey like the picture. Do you know what I did wrong?
The thickening with pectin takes place after you take the pan off the stove and it cools down. Cooking it a bit longer might have helped too.
Are there certain types of apples that are better than others for consumption: Fiji, Grannysmith, Cortland, Braeburn, etc.?

My favorite for eating raw is Honeycrisp.
My favorite for baking/cooking is Granny Smith
But you can Google best apples and get oodles of suggestions like the article above.
