Glucomannan is a plant-based dietary fiber of the konjac root. It is a water-soluble polysaccharide chain of glucose and mannose, which is used as a food additive as an emulsifier or thickener. It shows properties similar to guar gum and can absorb up to 200 times its weight in water to form a thick gum or gel-like mass. Fiber forms an essential part of the diet as it acts as a bulking agent which forms a feeling of fullness in the body. Since it promotes satiety (feeling of fullness), it can be a good addition to the weight loss program. Glucomannan also helps temporarily relieve constipation and maintain body’s lipid levels.
